Sir Rudolf Bing



Bing, Sir Rudolf (1902– ), Austrian-born British opera impresario. An opera administrator in Germany, he emigrated to Britain when the Nazis came to power, headed the Glyndebourne Opera (1935–49), and helped organize the Edinburgh Festival (1947). As general manager of New York's Metropolitan Opera (1950–72), he introduced black singers and presided over the company's move to Lincoln Center.
