Biloxi



Biloxi (pop. 197,125), second largest city in Mississippi, a summer and winter resort located on the southern coast along the Gulf of Mexico. Fishing and boat building are major industries. The name Biloxi comes from the Sioux word for “first people.” French Old Biloxi, founded 1699, was the first European settlement in the lower Mississippi Valley.
