Bicycle racing

Bicycle racing, popular sport in many countries, especially in Europe. Races may take place on a special track or on open roads. Track events, which range from 140–500 m (459–1,640 ft), exercise the cyclists' tactical skills as well as testing their strength and endurance. Road races cover 50 mi (80 km) to several thousand miles. The most famous event is the Tour de France, an annual international competition that covers about 2,500 mi (4,000 km) and lasts three weeks.
