Daniel Berrigan and Philip



Berrigan, Daniel and Philip (1922– ) and (1924– ), Roman Catholic priests in the pacifist “Catonsville Nine” group. In 1969, as a Vietnam War protest, the group broke into the Selective Service Office at Catonsville, Md., and poured oxblood over records and files. The Berrigans were convicted and given 3-year sentences; in 1972 Philip was tried on conspiracy charges but acquitted. In 1981 they were convicted of burglary and conspiracy after they broke into a General Electric plant and damaged 2 nuclear-missile nose cones.
