Ingmar Bergman

Bergman, Ingmar (1918– ), Swedish film and stage director, producer, and writer. He combines realism with imaginative symbolism to explore themes such as good and evil, love, old age, and death. Motion pictures include The Seventh Seal (1956), Wild Strawberries (1957), Persona (1965), Cries and Whispers (1972), and Fanny and Alexander (1982).
