Beowulf



Beowulf, anonymous heroic epic poem, probably composed in the 8th century, the greatest extant poem in Old English. Using elements of Germanic legend, it is set in Scandinavia and recounts the hero Beowulf's victories over the monster Grendel and Grendel's mother, his battle with a dragon, and his death and burial.
