Benavente y Martínez, Jacinto (1866–1954), Spanish playwright. He wrote and staged 172 comedies and helped establish the modern theater in Spain. He was awarded the 1922 Nobel Prize for literature for such popular plays as The Bonds of Interest (1907) and La Malquerida (1913).
