Lyman Beecher



Beecher, Lyman (1775–1863), U.S. clergyman and liberal theologian who helped found the American Bible Society (1816); father of Harriet Beecher Stowe. Beecher's sermons against slavery and intemperance made him one of the most influential orators of his time.
