Alfred Hamilton Barr Jr.



Barr, Alfred Hamilton, Jr. (1901–81), U.S. art historian. Barr directed New York's Museum of Modern Art, 1929–43, organizing some of the most important shows in the history of modern art. He wrote three contemporary classics: Cubism and Abstract Art (1936), Picasso (1946), and Matisse (1951).
