Daniel Patrick Moynihan



Moynihan, Daniel Patrick (1927– ), U.S. senator from New York since 1977. A politician with roots in academia, Moynihan distinguished himself as an authority on urban problems, serving as head of Harvard University's and Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Joint Center of Urban Studies (1966–69) and as professor at Harvard (1971–76). He was also a consultant to President Richard Nixon (1969–70), U.S. ambassador to India (1973–75), and ambassador to the United Nations (1975–76).
