Mount Everest



Mount Everest, highest mountain on earth. Located in the Himalayas, in Tibet and Nepal, it rises to a height of about 29,000 ft (8,839 m). Reaching its top has been the goal of many climbing expeditions. The first to succeed were Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norkay in 1953. Several other expeditions have since been successful. According to the Sherpa tribes of the area, Mt. Everest is the abode of the Abominable Snowman, or Yeti.
