Louis Mountbatten



Mountbatten, Louis (Francis Albert Victor Nicholas, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma; 1900–79), English admiral and politician. In World War II he was supreme allied commander in Southeast Asia and liberated Burma from the Japanese. After the war he was the last British viceroy of India (1947), and led the negotiations for India's and Pakistan's independence. He later served as first sea lord, admiral of the fleet, and chief of the defense staff (1959–65). He was killed by Irish Republican Army terrorists.
