Sir Henry Morgan



Morgan, Sir Henry (1635–88), English adventurer and leader of the West Indies buccaneers. The destruction of Panama City (1671), his most daring exploit, took place after the signing of a treaty between England and Spain. Recalled under arrest, he was subsequently pardoned, knighted (1673), and made lieutenant governor of Jamaica (1680–82).
