Monarchy

Monarchy, form of government in which sovereignty is vested in one person, usually for life. The office may be elective but is usually hereditary. A monarch who has unlimited power is an absolute monarch; one whose power is limited by custom or constitution is a constitutional monarch. In modern parliamentary democracies a monarch is usually a nonparty political figure and a symbol of national unity
