Ming dynasty



Ming dynasty, imperial family that ruled China from 1368–1644. Following years of Mongolian rule, this period was characterized by a return to civil service and an emphasis on scholarship, the arts, and architecture. Achievements included the building of the imperial palace in Beijing's Forbidden City and the creation of exquisite porcelain vases.
