Mexicali (pop. 602,400), city in Mexico founded in 1903. Mexicali is the capital and second largest city of the Mexican state of Baja California Norte. The name is a combination of the words “Mexico” and “California.” Mexicali is a popular tourist attraction that offers beautiful architecture, handicrafts, and exciting sporting events like rodeos and bullfights.
