Metropolitan Museum of Art



Metropolitan Museum of Art, largest and most comprehensive art museum in the United States, founded in 1870 in New York City. Its collections include art, pottery, jewelry, and sculpture from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Babylonia, and Assyria; Eastern paintings, sculptures, and artifacts; American art, sculpture, and period rooms; African art; and modern art, photography, and industrial design. The Uris Center hosts educational activities. Medieval art is housed in the Cloisters, located in Fort Tryon Park. It features parts of European medieval buildings, outdoor gardens, and medieval art, such as tapestries, ivories, and stained glass.
