Robert Merrill



Merrill, Robert (1919– ), internationally acclaimed New York-born baritone opera singer. Known for his powerful voice and technical proficiency, he has performed extensively worldwide, notably with the Metropolitan Opera and on Broadway. Among his famous roles are Renato in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera, Amonasro in Aïda, and Escomillo in Bizet's Carmen. He wrote an autobiograhy, Once More from the Beginning (1965), and a novel, The Divas (1978).
