Mérida



Mérida (pop. 557,300), founded in 1542, now the largest city on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Mérida is surrounded by farmland and is located near the the ancient Mayan sites of Chichén Itzá and Uxmal. The city contains a magnificent cathedral and examples of early Spanish architecture.
