Mercury (mythology)



Mercury (mythology), in Roman mythology, god of commerce and wealth; associated with Hermes in Greek mythology. Known as the messenger of the gods, he delivered his messages with great speed because he wore winged sandals. Mercury was the son of Jupiter, and Maia, a goddess. He was depicted as both crafty and deceptive.
