Menhaden



Menhaden, marine fish (Brevoortia tyrannus) of the herring family. Inhabiting the Atlantic coastal waters from Nova Scotia to Brazil, menhaden measure 12–18 in (30–46 cm) and weigh up to 1 lb (0.5 kg). They are edible but are most often processed for their oil or as livestock feed and fertilizer.
