Mellon Foundation, Andrew W., philanthropic organization that grants funds to educational, scientific, public affairs and cultural institutions. Named after Andrew W. Mellon, former secretary of the treasury (1921–32), the foundation was started by Mellon's daughter and son in 1969. It is one of the 10 wealthiest foundations in the United States.
