John Cardinal McCloskey



McCloskey, John Cardinal (1810–85), U.S. Roman Catholic prelate. He became archbishop of New York (1864) and was created the first U.S. cardinal (1875). He was responsible for the completion of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.
