May apple



May apple, or may apple (Podophyllum peltatum), woodland plant native to eastern North America. Also known as mandrake, it produces white flowers between Apr. and June and edible yellow berries often used in jellies. A member of the barberry family, may apple roots are used to manufacture types of herbal medicines.
