Marsh

Marsh, flat wetland area characterized by grassy plant growth. Distinguished from swamps where trees grow, marshes often occur in coastal regions where tidal flows add salt water to fresh water, usually at the mouths of rivers (estuarine marshes). Freshwater marshes occur in low-lying inland areas and both types of marshes are home to a wide variety of fish and wildlife.
