Jacques Maritain



Maritain, Jacques (1882–1973), leading French neo-Thomist philosopher. He turned to the study of Thomism, the system of philosophy developed by St. Thomas, after his conversion to Catholicism in 1906. He was professor of modern philosophy at the Catholic Institute, Paris (1914–39) and French ambassador to the Vatican (1945–48).
