Peyton Conway March



March, Peyton Conway (1864–1955), U.S. Army general and chief of staff during World War I. Often credited with modernizing and streamlining the army and Department of War, March was responsible for landing 1.2 million U.S. troops in France. A West Point graduate (1888), he fought in the Spanish-American War and was in charge of United States artillery forces in France prior to being named chief of staff.
