Mange

Mange, disease of the skin that affects domestic and farm animals. Small parasites (mites) burrow into the skin and cause inflammation. The skin is usually covered with sores, and the animal's hair falls out. There are a number of different mites that can cause mange, and the exact symptoms and severity of the disease depend on the species of mite involved. Inadequate nutrition is also an important factor. Mange is treated by pesticides and by ensuring that the animal receives a nutritious diet.
