Maltese

Maltese, breed of toy dog. This breed probably descends from lap dogs popular 2,000 years ago with women of Greek and Roman nobility. Standing no taller than about 5 in (12.7 cm) and weighing no more than about 7 lb (1.4 kg), the long white hairs of this dog part down the middle and, sometimes, grow to floor length.
