François de Malherbe



Malherbe, François de (1555–1628), French poet; court poet to Henry IV and Louis XIII. A critic of the classical style of the Pléiade poets, he emphasized the importance of French classic language and of precision in expression. His best-known poem is Cosolation à Monsieur du Périer (c.1590).
