Francisco Indalecio Madero

Madero, Francisco Indalecio (1873–1913), president of Mexico (1911–13). A democratic idealist, he opposed Porfirio Díaz in the 1910 election and was imprisoned. He escaped to Tex. and there declared a revolution; joined by Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata, he deposed Díaz in 1911 and was elected president (1911–13). His administration was marred by his ineptitude and division and corruption among his followers. In the face of widespread revolt he was deposed and murdered by Gen. Victoriano Huerta.
