Guillaume de Machaut



Machaut, Guillaume de (1300–77), French poet and composer. He was a leading figure in the 14th-century Ars Nova (“new art”) school of music, which developed many new forms. His Mass for Four Voices was the first complete polyphonic setting by a single composer.
