Lysias

Lysias (459?–380 B.C.), ancient Greek orator and speech writer. Although as many as 35 speeches attributed to Lysias have survived, he is best known for a simple though passionate attack on a ruling tyrant of Athens entitled “Against Eratosthenes.” A citizen of Athens, he escaped after his arrest by the Thirty Tyrants, Spartan rulers installed at the end of the Peloponnesian War. When democracy was restored in Athens, Lysias returned and again wrote speeches on a professional basis.
