Lymphatic system

Lymphatic system, network of vessels and nodes that carry tissue fluid, or lymph, from the tissues to the veins of the circulatory system. Lymph is a transparent fluid that carries oxygen and nutrients to cells and carries away waste products. Ingested fats are digested and absorbed into the bloodstream with the help of lymphatic vessels. The body fights infections through lymphocyte and macrophage cells found in lymph nodes in the armpits, groin, neck, and other parts of the body. Most lymph passes directly into capillaries, but some is carried back to the blood by the lymphatic system; whose main ducts feed into the circulatory system near the collarbone.
