Sybil Ludington



Ludington, Sybil (1761–83), American Revolutionary War hero. The daughter of Colonel Henry Ludington, Sybil Ludington is known for her heroism in rallying her father's soldiers in Putnam County, N.Y., for a fight against the British. Responding to a messenger's warning that the British were attacking Danbury, she rode nearly 40 mi (64 km) to successfully alert her father's regiment.
