Lowell

Lowell, industrial city in northeastern Massachusetts, on the Merrimack and Concord rivers northwest of Boston. Originally settled in 1653, it developed with the building of cotton mills (from 1822) advocated by the pioneer textile manufacturer Francis Cabot Lowell (1775–1817), for whom it was named. Today Lowell makes electronic equipment as well as textiles and other products.
