Louis Philippe



Louis Philippe (1773–1850), king of France, 1830–48. Exiled from France in 1793, he traveled in Europe and the United States until 1815. He was accepted as a compromise candidate for the crown in 1830. As king he refused to extend the voting franchise, and the revolution of Feb. 1848 led to his abdication. The monarchy was abolished and Louis Philippe fled to England, where he died.
