Longinus

Longinus (fl. 1st cent. ?A.D.), Greek writer to whom the ancient Greek essay on literary criticism On the Sublime has been attributed. The treatise discusses “loftiness of style” in literature. It quotes the Greek orator Demosthenes and the Roman orator Cicero to make comparative points about literary style, and it is the source of the text of Sappho's second ode.
