Locust

Locust, in botany, deciduous tree or shrub (genus Robinia) with large thorns. Locusts have flowers like those of sweet peas and compound leaves made up of double rows of leaflets. They grow rapidly, and their roots send up suckers, making them effective for holding shifting ground. The timber does not shrink or swell and is used to make wooden pins and railroad ties.
