Line Islands



Line Islands, string of 11 coral islands in the west and southwest Pacific Ocean. Also known as the Equatorial Islands, they total 222 sq mi (576 sq km) in area and are politically divided. Some of the Northern Line Islands are part of the British crown colony, while others are under U.S. jurisdiction. The Central and Southern Line Islands are part of Gilbert and Ellice Islands, a British crown colony.
