Lindsay, Vachel (1879–1931), U.S. poet of rhythmic, ballad-like verse designed to be read out loud. Among the best known are “The Congo” (1914) and “Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight” (1914). Collected Poems was published in 1938.
