Limerick

Limerick, humorous verse form consisting of 5 lines, named for the Irish city of Limerick but of unknown origin. Limericks were popularized by the English poet Edward Lear (1812–88). An example:

There was a young lady named Bright

Whose speed was far faster than light

She went out one day in a relative way

And returned on the previous night.
