Lignum vitae



Lignum vitae, either of 2 species (Guaiacum officinale and G. sanctum) of flowering evergreen tree of the West Indies, Mexico, and Florida. Its extremely heavy wood is used for ship construction, furniture, and mallets. The wood also contains a resin used in some drugs.
