Lichen

Lichen, name given to plants that consist of algae living in association with fungi. The fungi gets food from the algae and absorbs the water that is used by the algae to make its own food in the process called photosynthesis. This relationship is a form of symbiosis. Lichens generally live on the bark of trees, rotting wood, rocks, or soil.
