James Levine



Levine, James (1943– ), U.S. pianist and conductor. In 1964–70 he was an apprentice conductor of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra under George Szell and then assistant conductor. In 1972 he became principal conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, where he was appointed music director in 1975 and artistic director in 1983.
