Leopard (Panthera pardus), big cat similar to the jaguar, with a yellow coat marked with black rosettes, or with black fur (the panther). Found in a variety of habitats across Africa and Asia, it is agile and relies when hunting on its power to spring quickly. The leopard is known for its habit of dragging its kill up into a tree out of the reach of jackals and hyenas. The kill may weigh more than the leopard itself.
