Lee Teng-hui



Lee Teng-hui (1923– ), Taiwanese president (1990– ), became interim president of Taiwan in 1988 as a result of the death of President Chiang Kai-shek. He had formerly served as a member of the Joint Committee on Rural Reconstruction (1957–61). He was mayor of Taipei (1978–81), governor of Taiwan province (1981–84), and vice president of Taiwan (1984–88).
