Charles Lee



Lee, Charles (1731–82), American major general in the Revolutionary War. He refused orders from George Washington (1776), planned betrayal while in British captivity (1776–78), and retreated at the Battle of Monmouth (1778), robbing Washington of a victory. He was court-martialed and dismissed (1780).
