Pierre Laval



Laval, Pierre (1883–1945), French politician who collaborated with the Germans in World War II. A socialist and pacifist, he served as premier (1931–32, 1935–36). Believing that Nazi victory was inevitable, he allowed himself to be installed as a Nazi puppet premier (1942–44). He surrendered to the Allies (1945) and was executed for treason.
