Lateran Treaty



Lateran Treaty, concordat between the papacy and the government of Italy, signed 1929 in the Lateran palace and confirmed by the 1948 Italian constitution. It established Roman Catholicism as Italy's state religion and Vatican City as an independent sovereign state.
